About Us

Bayside Run Coaching has been supporting kids and adults in Bayside Melbourne to improve their running for almost 10 years. We are passionate, experienced, highly focused on service and we work hard to provide you or your kids with an engaging and enjoyable experience.

ABOUT THE HEAD COACH

Our team is lead by Jim Poussard, owner and head coach of Bayside Run Coaching.  Jim understands people, loves running and is a stickler for great customer service. Jim also works for Athletics Australia as a Junior Athletics Leader and is currently on the Melbourne Girls Grammar athletics coaching team.  Jim understands the importance of an efficient running technique to maximise performance and avoid injury through his long-distance running. He has completed over 75 marathons/ultramarathons as well as having a go at pretty much every other distance possible. 

Primary qualifications: Level 3 Running Coach, accredited with Athletics Australia

Focus / specialties: Juniors and adults, run technique, running for sport, distance running, half and full marathon training plans, beginner runners

Junior Run Coaching

Personal Run Coaching for juniors

We regularly coach children one-on-one in order to improve their running technique and build run fitness for other sports. We offer sessions for 2 or more juniors together at a reduced rate.

Common challenges that parents relay to us include:

  • An interest in running but restricted by poor technique

  • A desire to improve run endurance, take-off power, speed and agility for other sports

  • Improve performance and race strategy for Athletics/XC events

We can assist with all these goals in a professional and engaging way.

Pricing (5-17 years):

junior run ACTIVE groups (Beginner-intermediate)

Term 2 - 2024 Bookings now open

Kids love to run. You can foster that interest with our weekly junior RUN ACTIVE groups. We coach fun engaging sessions, supporting juniors to:

  • enjoy and improve their running

  • run efficiently utilising correct technique

  • learn and improve different running elements - speed, endurance and fitness

  • practise sport-specific running skills, take off speed and agility

Session are 45 minutes in duration and would suit keen junior runners (beginner to intermediate level), aged 6-14 years. Programs operate during the school term, commencing in Week 2.

what is a 6-week run challenge?

Beginning your running journey can be a challenge! Getting through the first 4-6 weeks can require a little help - that’s where our 6 Week Challenge comes in.

If you are a running beginner or you are wanting to get back to being a regular confident runner, this is perfect for you! With the motivation of an achievable run goal, accredited coach, structured training program and a supportive small group environment, you can complete a 5km run in 6 weeks!

what is included in the challenge?

  • Run technique assessment from our accredited running coach

  • Two fun supportive coaching sessions per week for 6 weeks - helping you run correctly and build up your distance gradually.

  • Fully supported goal event day - drink stations and instant support crew!

  • Lots of advice, laughs and motivation

  • Very cool ‘Team Bayside’ running cap

who coaches the challenge?

The Challenge is coached by our head coach Jim Poussard. Jim is experienced and passionate about supporting new runners to build their confidence and ability and has led many previous 6-Week Challenge programs.

how much does the 6-week challenge cost?

The 6-Week Challenge is great value at $375 (12 sessions). We also offer a cheaper rate if you can only attend one session per week.

If you are a previous 6 Week Challenge participant and want to experience that awesome feeling again, you are eligible for a 50% discount!

Adult Run Coaching

Our experienced coaches work with adults from 18-80 years who want to get fitter, lose weight, improve run technique or achieve a specific run goal. For adults and families, we offer individual run coaching sessions, family sessions and virtual coaching sessions.

Personal Run Coaching

We offer coaching for individuals who want to improve various aspects of their running:

  • Functional: technique, returning from injury

  • Run fitness: Improving fitness, speed, agility

  • Outcome based: Training towards a specific event or sport

  • Wellbeing: Running as a pathway to improve mental and physical health

This is relevant for those with a running focus and for athletes from other sports wanting to improve their fitness and speed.  We take the time to understand your run history and what you want to achieve, then work with you to develop a plan and work towards your goal outcome.

School Programs

School Run Skills Programs (Years 1-12)

Add a before or after school run skills program at your school, led by our experienced and engaging run coaches. These are 45 minute sessions conducted once a week. Our programs coach technique, agility and run endurance through fun activities and challenges....so no boring laps of the oval. Our 8-10 week term-based programs are great value, parent funded and conveniently located on or adjacent to school premises. We currently operate a successful ongoing Run Skills program at Cornish College for Year 1-4 students.

  • A fun and challenging extra-curricular activity to keep kids fit, active and healthy.

  • Convenient weekly activity held on school grounds

  • Opportunity to work towards a run goal

  • Great value activity, generally much cheaper than other term based programs.

Cross-Country coaching (PRIMARY & secondary)

Bayside Run Coaching offers coaching for school cross country teams in the lead up to school, district, division or higher level competitions. Our experienced coaches have trained X-C students to state level and we aim to balance outcomes with enjoyment. Contact us for more information.

Firbank Grammar Sandringham House

Run Skills Program (Before School)

Bayside Run Coaching lead this fantastic before-school extra curricular activity and we invite school parents of children (Prep - Year 6) to book in.

Run Skills involves games, team activities and running drills to keep kids active, build fitness for sport and to have fun! For the older kids, its also great preparation for school Cross Country and Athletics.

The program is led by our Level 3 Running Coach Jim Poussard who has coached running skills in schools for over 10 years.

Program Details - Term 2-2024

Day/Time: Tuesdays 8.05am - 8.45am

Dates: 23 April - 18 June (9 week program)

Location: Firbank Sandringham House School Oval

Term fee: $145 (addition children in family 25% off)
